JLW Bargain Sale 2013

If you live in Wilmington, NC or surrounding areas, be sure to catch the Junior League of Wilmington's annual Bargain Sale on Saturday, November 10th from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm at Unit 44 at the University Centre (the intersection of S. College Road and New Centre Drive, right next to Sam’s Club). An admission of only $3 gives you access to new and gently used adult clothing, children’s items, furniture, household goods, books, electronics, and more.  My favorite part is the “Unique Boutique” which features donations from local businesses including Monkee's, Fisherman’s Wife, Return Passage, Lula Balou, New River Pottery, and many more.  Not only will you find great bargains at the sale but you will also be giving back to the community.  All proceeds from the Bargain Sale go directly to Junior League projects including partnership with the Blue Ribbon Commission and D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy to help create a positive change in the lives of Wilmington’s children and families.  I don't know how a day of shopping could feel anymore rewarding!

Looking for something to do Friday night?  Get first dibs on the deals at the Sip & Shop Bargain Sale preview November 9th from 6:30-8:30 pm.  An $8 admission will give you the first chance to peruse the sale.  If that's not enticing enough, while you shop you will be able to enjoy live music, food, cash bar, and a raffle.  A ticket to the Sip and Shop gains you free access into the Bargain Sale on Saturday.  Check out the JLW Bargain Sale on facebook for more information and to see pictures of some of the best merchandise up for grabs!

Sip & Shop: Friday, November 9th: 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Price for Admission: $8, with free entry on Saturday
Price of Items: All items priced as marked

Bargain Sale: Saturday, November 10th: 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Price for Admission: $3
Price of Items: All items HALF the marked price

All Sales are CASH ONLY!

My big score last year was a "Doors of Chapel Hill" poster that I bought for $1! It is now framed in our house and a great way to decorate on a budget. Have you been to the Bargain Sale in the past? Leave a comment below of any great items you found.

Starting A Coupon Binder

Coupon Kitchen is set up for people who already know how to coupon or I suggest checking out Southern Savers for a detailed tutorial on how to get started. However, Coupon Kitchen is useful even without using coupons! If you really want to dive right into the coupon world, the first thing to know are the two methods: accordion file and binder. While I stick to the accordion file method, the binder route is preferred by many and may be the best solution for you.  Luckily, we have Ashlee from Coupon Community to give a few easy tips on starting a coupon binder.

An Easy Way to Start a Coupon Binder

Making a Coupon Binder is really an easy thing to do. It will help you to organize your shopping trips and increase the amounts that you save. Plus, it is also a great place to save a few reference lists and tips.

Step one: Breathe. This can be done by almost anyone, so don’t panic.

Step two: Get a three ring binder that will hold 30 or more pages. You can either use baseball card holders or full sheet holders depending on how organized you want to be.

Tip: If you clip them first and then add them to the baseball card holders, you won’t have to clip them at the market from the sleeve style. You can find binders and sleeves at places like Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby or E bay. I used a 40% off one item coupon at Hobby Lobby to get my binder.

Step three: Organization. This is a two part step to make life easier. When I clip my coupons, I add the newest ones to the back and have the oldest (or soonest to expire) at the front of the sleeve.

For me, this makes it easier to purge the coupons that I didn’t use and have expired. I also have each of my pages split up into categories such as canned goods, dairy products, etc. This way I can flip through faster in case I see an in store sale that isn’t listed on their ad.

Of course I also have a section at the front that I call “This trip” for the items that I want to get on this trip so I won’t miss something I came to the store for. I sometimes miss things on my lists because I didn’t write them down in the same order I found them in the store. When this happens, I see the missed items in my “This trip” coupons so I don't miss a deal.

Step four: Create what will be your seasonal food and retail sales cycle lists and place it at the end of your book as a reference. You can always watch your local papers and work out when the best deals are in your area to make your own customized list.

So who wants to go shopping?

Thanks for your help, Ashlee! Interested in starting your own coupon binder? Check out Delly's Deals for binders and complete start-up kits!

Starbucks $5 Gift Card Rebate

I got super excited today when I saw this post from Southern Savers. With the purchase of either (2) Starbucks Coffee or Tazo K-Cups 16 ct. or (3) Starbucks coffee or Tazo K-Cups 10 ct. you can mail in or submit this rebate online to receive a $5 Starbucks gift card. Why I got super excited vs. just excited? This week at Harris Teeter Starbucks Coffee K-Cups 10 ct. are on sale for $7.99 (regularly $10.39). If you purchase 3 and send in the rebate, that's an overall savings of $12, very rare for something like K-Cups. The other super exciting part is that my supply was just running out! Thank you Starbucks and Harris Teeter, always to the rescue. I couldn't find any coupons for the Starbucks K-Cups to make this deal even sweeter so if anyone knows of some, please comment below. Also, don't forget to register the gift card you receive to start earning free syrups, soy milk, and drinks!

PriceBlink

In the past few years, I have started completing the majority of my shopping online. Not only is it convenient, but with so many coupon codes, cash back sites and online deals, you can get great deals on the items you normally buy in the store. I was recently approached by PriceBlink and given a chance to try out their add-on. I always look for a coupon code before I make a purchase so I was excited to find a tool that did all of the work for me! There are two benefits to the PriceBlink add-on. First,  it acts as a comparison shopping tool notifying you if the product you are browsing is available for a lower price from another retailer. The add-on also notifies you of any available coupons for the current retailer's website you are browsing. I downloaded the free add-on and started perusing Banana Republic's website. Immediately the add-on alerted me of the 30% off coupon available so when I stumbled upon this versatile necklace, I quickly added it to my cart and saved almost $18! If you enjoy shopping online, I definitely recommend PriceBlink as an easy way to save money.

I received a Banana Republic gift card to tryout PriceBlink. All opinions are my own.

Leap Day Sale at Half Off Depot

In celebration of Leap Day, get 29% off all orders from Half Off Depot with the code LEAP29. There are multiple deals to pick from in each participating city. Their deals are usually a great price anyway but now you can get an even bigger discount on restaurants, spas/salons, entertainment venues, and retail.  I'm definitely debating on purchasing the facial from Ki Salon and Spa for only $42 - usually a $120 value! If I was still in Charlotte, I would probably buy one each of the Pewter Rose, Cajun Queen, and Bonterra restaurant certificates. These certificates are a great way to enjoy dinner out on a budget. Happy Leap Day!

$15 off $75 at Harris Teeter

Happy Valentine's Day from Harris Teeter! They really know how to keep me in this relationship. Not only are they offering Super Doubles next week, but to strengthen my love of this store, they sent an email for $15 off a $75 purchase the week of February 8-14! Make sure your VIC card is signed up for the eVIC program to receive weekly emails and promotions like these. The email stated that this is targeted to select eVIC customers and is non-transferable. The $15 is taken off after coupons and other discounts are applied so grab a few big ticket items (toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, diapers, etc) in addition to the weekly menu and basically get them for free! Also, this discount does not apply to stamps, gift cards, alcohol or tobacco.

Super Doubles at Lowes Foods

It's Super Double coupons this week at Lowes Foods. That means any coupon that is $1.98 or less will double in value. This is considered Super Doubles because their normal coupon policy only doubles coupons $.99 or less. This is a great time to stock up on household and personal care items, pantry stock up items, and higher valued food purchases you might not normally make. Check out Southern Savers for a full list of coupon match-ups. Here's the official Lowes Foods Coupon Policy. Happy shopping!!

For those Harris Teeter lovers, your turn with Super Doubles will be next week!
