Harris Teeter Weekly Menu Sept 1-7

Happy Labor Day everyone! We have been looking forward to a relaxing long weekend at home for a while and I'm so happy to be celebrating the end of summer in Wilmington. I've conjured up a healthier spin on the traditional cookout hot dog to celebrate on Monday.

This week Harris Teeter has their 2.5 lb bags of frozen chicken breasts on sale for B2G3. This is usually the only time that the price of boneless chicken breasts dips below the butcher department price of $1.99/lb. The total for all 5 bags (which you must purchase to get the price) is $21.98. This breaks down to a cost of $1.75/lb so I suggest stocking up and having chicken to eat on for weeks to come. If you have been following this blog for a while or know me and my husband personally then you are aware that this type of sale on chicken breasts is almost comparable to winning the lottery!

Stocking up on chicken will bump up your grocery bill this week but will be worth the savings in the end! The subtotal this week (with all 5 bags of chicken included) is $62.41.

Tips for the menu:
  • The Broccoli Slaw recipe is doubled so store it in an air-tight container so you can eat it with both the Chicken Caprese Wraps and Barbecue Chicken Flatbreads
  • The Chicken Caprese Wraps and Barbecue Chicken Flatbreads both call for cooked and shredded chicken breasts. For better preparation for both recipes, cook the number of chicken breasts called for in a slow cooker on low setting for 6-8 hours. Remove chicken from the slow cooker and use two forks to shred apart. Store the shredded chicken in an air-tight container and you will already have all of the cooked chicken you need when you go to prepare these recipes. Since you are already buying a large amount of chicken this week, this method will save you from spending $5 on a rotisserie chicken as well.

Harris Teeter & Lowes Foods Weekly Menu Aug 25-31

Harris Teeter & Lowes Foods have many similar items on sale this week so the menu below should work for both stores. The prices listed are for Harris Teeter and the subtotal is $53.07. There will be no Bi-Lo menu this week.

Tips for the menu:

  • Make sure you grab roasted pepper hummus instead of paprika. I made this mistake last week (they look very similar) and was unpleasantly surprised. If you like the paprika then go for it! I wasn't a fan but maybe it was because I was expected a very different taste...
  • I never use a whole packet of seasonings, marinades, etc. The Crock Pot London Broil calls for half of each seasoning packet. Don't throw the other half away though! Save the seasonings in a sealed plastic bag for future use.

Harris Teeter Weekly Menu Aug 18-24

It's Super Double coupons this week at Harris Teeter and the menu below is taking full advantage. In my opinion, this is one of the best Super Doubles coupon sales they've had in a while. Check out Southern Savers for three full lists of ways to save.

This rainy/fall weather has put me in the mood for soup so I'm extra excited for the Butternut Squash & Italian Turkey Sausage Soup recipe this week.

As I make these menus myself during the week, there are a few tips and tricks I come across so I've decided to start sharing those for each weekly menu. Please leave a comment if you have your own tips/tricks to share with us!

The subtotal is $46.35.

Tips for the menu:

  • The menu this week calls for Classico pasta sauce and Kraft chunk cheese (save money by shredding on your own). There are $1 coupons for multiples of Classico and Kraft chunk cheese so stock up on these items to save money over the coming weeks.
  • The pork tenderloin should be in your freezer from last week. Place the frozen pork tenderloin in your fridge the night before for easy defrosting.
  • When you open the package of ground turkey for the Rigatoni, go ahead and form your Pizza Burger patties for fast preparation on Friday.
