Food Lion Frugal Cook-Off & A Big Giveaway!

Bloggers

Last week I informed y'all that I was participating in the Food Lion Frugal Cook-Off in Charlotte, NC. I was honored when asked to participate but the event exceeded my expectations on a whole new level! Any Top Chef fans out there? It's one of my favorite shows on tv and this frugal cook-off was basically the same idea, replacing trained chefs with NC bloggers and foodies.

Our Team, me, Mary, & Julie

For the challenge, we were split into four teams and given the task of cooking for surprise guests stopping by for dinner on a week night. Using only the staple pantry items on hand and a shopping budget of $15 from a selection of meat, produce, and My Essentials items we had to prepare dinner for four adults. With 10 minutes to plan, 10 minutes to "shop" and 30 minutes to cook and plate our dish, Mary, Julie, and I quickly got to work!

Contemplating our menu.

Yours truly preparing the spinach.

We decided to go with Caprese Chicken, Spaghetti with Garlic White Wine Sauce, and Sauteed Mushrooms and Spinach. To see more about the event, follow Food Lion on facebook and twitter for more pictures and a video to be posted soon! Even though we didn't win, I had an amazing time competing, meeting new bloggers, such as Wendy and one of my favorites, Kelly, and talking with the Food Lion team members.

Our dish!
For the dedicated Coupon Kitchen readers, you know that Food Lion is not a store I consistently cover. However, the North Carolina based company is revamping their look and offering lower prices, fresher produce, upgraded store brands, and an overall better store experience. I'm excited to try out more of Food Lion's new products and since I participated in this Frugal Cook-Off, Food Lion wants to give you that chance, too!

I'm giving away one $100 Food Lion gift card!!

HOW TO ENTER:
1) Leave a comment below letting me know which three pantry staples you always have on hand.
2) For an additional entry, share this giveaway by linking it to facebook or twitter. Please leave a comment letting me know you have done so.

The giveaway will end on Tuesday, September 25th. Good luck!

Living in North Carolina, we shop at Food Lion constantly! We were just there last night, in fact! There are so many locations it's very convenient.

I always have 1) rice 2) beans and 3) cumin in my pantry. I'm Latina so they are must haves!

My 3 favorite staples are orzo, tuna and parmesan cheese. (I really hope the good folks at FL read this because I really have a hard time finding orzo there and am forced to look elsewhere for it.)
